1. What is Psoriasis? Which are the types of psoriasis?

Psoriasis is an auto immune disease. Normally human skin cell replaced in 25 to 30 days. But in Psoriasis, skin replacement is 6 to 10 days. It may cause abnormal excessive deposit of dead cells on skin. That is psoriasis.

  • Mainly there are five types of psoriasis. They are
  •  Plaque
  • Guttate
  • Pustular
  • Inverse and
  • Erythrodermic

Scalp Psoriasis, Nail psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis are also psoriasis related

2. What is an autoimmune disease?

There are about 19000 genes in human body. Nine genes related to immunity work against your body instead of protecting it. About three per cent of birth in the world is physically handicapped. Similarly about two per cent birth in the world is gene troubled. This gene trouble causes about 80 autoimmune diseases . Psoriasis, Diabetes mellitus type 1, Rheumatoid Arthritis are some of them. The fair sex (Women) has more chance than men to catch autoimmune diseases.

3. What is Rebound effect of psoriasis?

Sudden stopping of the usage of some suppressive medicines for psoriasis like topical steroid ointments or creams or  injection  may cause the emergence or re-emergence of psoriasis. In the case of re-emergence , the severity of psoriasis is often worse than before. It is also called flare-up of psoriasis. The stopping of “Dantapala oil , an oil widely  used by psoriasis patients in Kerala, is also caused some flare-up.

4. What are the Triggers of psoriasis?

The known triggers of psoriasis are :-

  1. Mental stress, Depression, and Anxiety
  2. Strep throat
  3. Smoking and heavy alcohol consumption
  4. Some chemicals
  5. Extreme climate
  6. Vitamin D deficiency
  7. Some drugs

5. What precautions shall be taken by a psoriasis patient if he switches over steroidal treatment to Vedah Ayurvedic Clinic’s Herbal oil treatment?

First of all the patient discussed the matter with his doctor. Sudden stopping of steroid ointment may cause a rebound effect (flare-up). Our herbal oil cannot prevent the rebound effect. So starting of Vedah Ayurvedic Clinic treatment will be 25-30 days after stopping of steroid medicine.

6. Is there a cure for psoriasis ?

A cure is the successful end of a medical condition. A disease is said to be incurable if there is always a chance of the patient to fall back into illness (relapse). Unfortunately psoriasis is an incurable disease like Diabetes mellitus. It can only be controlled. The control may be up to 100% on our treatment

11. What is the role of mental stress in psoriasis?

Mental stress and anxiety seems to make psoriasis worse in many patients. For example, A male patient, who is working abroad as a manager of a company was suffering from severe psoriasis. His job is stressful. His family is in Kerala. He couldn’t continue there and decided to resign the job. Before resign the job he took an appointment at our clinic and came to Kerala. He reached Kerala on 15th January 2017 and the visit of our Clinic is fixed on 20th January. On 20th January morning the wife of him contacted clinic on phone and said that he wouldn’t come to clinic as there was no trace of psoriasis on his body. Five days life without stress controls his psoriasis. After a couple of days he went back to his company . After some days of stressful work, his wife contacted us and informed that the psoriasis came back severely. This is an apt example for how mental stress working on psoriasis patient.

12. Is there any bitter experience on psoriasis treatment?

Not many, but two incidents. They were male patients. They hide their long-term usage of steroid ointments and used our oil without taking the interval period of 25-30 days. The flare-up caused by the stoppage of steroid worsens the condition of patients. They were physically unhealthy as well. They went back to the steroid. After this incident, we give our oil only 25-30 days after stopping of steroid ointments.

13. Which part of body is affected psoriasis first?

Normally psoriasis is seen primarily on the scalp. It may be misunderstood as dandruff. Knees, elbows, torso, nails, palms, face and genitals are also commonly psoriasis appear parts.

14. Will psoriasis cause hair fall?

Psoriasis itself will not cause the hair fall, however, removing scales on the scalp leads to loss of hair.

15. How do we treat psoriasis in sensitive areas?

26. How can make a 100% natural shampoo at home?

It is very easy. Take 10-15 leaves of shoe flower/hibiscus/ chemparathi and cut to pieces. Add 15 ml  coconut milk and grind in a mixer. The mix is a 100% natural shampoo to wash off the excess oil and dust on your hair. This mix is known in Kerala as “ Thaali”

27. Is dandruff contagious? OR Can dandruff be spread to others?

There are several causes for dandruff. If it is caused by a yeast-like fungus called Malassezia  globosa, it can spread from one to another. If dandruff is caused by dryness on scalp, stress or some allergic reactions, it wouldn’t spread from one to another.

28. Can dandruff cause Hair fall or Hair loss?

As a result of itching and thereby scratching damage the hair roots and loosen the hair grip. One of the chief causes of hair loss is dandruff.

29. Is dandruff spread on face, eyebrows, moustache, beard, middle of chest or groin?
